Got a call on Wednesday afternoon about a job I had applied. The lady on the phone said "my boss" was very impressed by your CV & would like you to come in for an interview on Thursday". I obliged so at 3pm on Thursday I was to have only my second ever job interview.
I arrived early. Buzzed through the door, up two flights of stairs & into a big open room. The back wall had huge giant windows, placed infront of them desks with secretaries typing furiously on their keyboards. Four stylish black sofas, 2 on opposite ends of the room facing each other & 2 near the back wall facing the desks. Music blaring from the other end of the room.
As I walked in I had no idea where to go. Eventually went down to the last desk and was handed a form to fill in. Took my time filling it in I had time to kill. Once I had finished it, handed it back & was told that she will give it to the boss & he'll call me through in a bit.
The boss came into the room annouced "Could I see ......." twas my turn. We went through to his office. Had a seat in one on the cream leather chairs. He interviewed me, I answered all the questions honestly. He informed me that he had 15 or so more interview's to do & he will let me know.
I left the interview feeling absolutely dejected I as felt if hadn't been a good interview from me at all. He didn't look happy or impressed. On my way home & whilst at home I felt like that was my chance gone. He won't invite me back, there's no chance of that happening.
At 1842 I received a phone from the man who had interviewed earlier that day. I thought this is it he'll say "Hi, I'm sorry to say you won't be going in further in our selection process" instead he asked how I felt the interview went. I said "To be honest not good. Wasn't my best interview" he then said "Well then you'll be glad to hear that we'd like to do a second interview with you" I was extremely happy. So my next interview was on Friday at 1215.
Friday arrived. Got there early again, filled in a new form had a seat & waited. Got called through, met one of his top trainers. Was told he'd show me and another guy the ground level of the business. Everybody introduced each other. We were told that we'd be competing against each whoever did better throughout the day would get his recommendation for the job to the boss.
We got on the bus, was told to get a daysaver. Leaving me with about 30p in my pocket. We were on our way for lunch. I had no money to buy lunch (never knew I needed to bring money). I told the trainer that I had no money, he said it's ok I'll pay for it. I didn't want to order too much so just asked for French fries. Then got persuaded into having juice. We sat talked, ate & drank. As soon as everyone was finished we were on our way.
I won't bore you with what we did. Suffice to say lots of walking & talking to people. At roundabout 1500/1530. One of the people had sustained an injury & couldn't walk so had to be taken to hospital. So as a result our day was cut short told that we'd get a phone call from the trainer about coming in on Saturday & finishing up.
I walked home in heavy boots & blazing sun. My feet aching. Once I took my boots & socks of my feet had some relief. Grabbed a shower to soak my aches & pains.
Was waiting for the phone call, stayed up till 2300 hoping he'd call but I went to bed. On Saturday I got up done the usual. Started to get ready then I decided to call them since I hadn't heard anything. The guy said we'll now get you in on Monday at 1215. I thought ok at least I can relax for a couple of days now.
Monday had arrived, I was as ready to finish up what started on Friday. I arrived 15 minutes early filled in the form again (filled out same form on Friday). I was seen about 15/20 minutes after I was supposed to be seen. The boss came into the room called my name, we went through to a different room. What would possibly be like a boardroom/meeting room.
I was infact there for my final interview. I wasn't nervous because I never knew so I never had the chance to get nervous. We had the final interview & once again I was told "I have few people to interview & I'll phone you tonight to let you know".
Again as I went home, I felt like I hadn't done enough to get the job. Thinking to myself that either I won't get a phone call or it will be the call that start's off with "I regret to inform you that ......". I waited thinking what will I do if I don't get it or what should I say if he tell's me no.
As it got later on the day I thought he won't phone but at just after 2000 my phone rang. I sat up from lying down on my bed, answered the phone & hoped for the best. He said he'd interviewed everyone & would like to give me the job. I was very happy to hear that.
So after the phone call was over I started to prepare for my first official day at my new job. Not nervous about getting the job anymore now nervous about doing the job well.
