Poor, poor game. Not much to talk about. Both teams were unadventurous in their approach. Ghezzal of Algeria was sent off for 2 bookable offences 15 minutes after coming on. Robert Koren the Slovenian skipper got the only goal a speculative effort on goal. Chaouchi couldn't deal with the effort and the jabulani found it's way into the net. That's about as much that happened.
Ghana 1 (Gyan P.84) 0 Serbia (Lukovic Sent Off 74)
Serbia's Lukovic was sent off for two bookable offences in the second half of this entertaining game. Ghana were awarded a penalty after Kuzmanovic handled inside the area. Asamoah Gyan duly thumped home the resulting penalty to give Ghana the victory & three points which put them top of the group. In the closing stages Gyan had another chance but he hit the post.
Germany (Podolski 8, Klose 27, Muller 68, Cacau 70) Australia (Cahill Sent Off 56)
Germany started well creating chances then in the eight minute, thumping his effort past Schwarzer from inside the area. Klose had a chance to make it two but put his effort wide. Then in the 27th minute a fantastic cross from the German skipper Lahm & a brave header from Klose rustling the back of the net. Germany two up and coasting. Just over ten mintues into the second half and Australia were harshly down to ten men after Tim Cahill was sent off. In the 68th minute Muller got free in the box and drove the ball low towards the goal, it went in off the post. That was Germany three up and with a bit more luck it would have been more. The scoring was wrapped up in the 70th minute with Cacau having just come on, Ozil crossed the ball into him and all he had to do was tap the ball home. The Germans dominated the game although it could have been different had Cahill not been sent off.
