World Cup Day 6

Honduras 0 Chile 1 (Beause Jour 34)

Chile were the better side in the first half creating chances & playing some really good attacking football. In the 34th minute Beause Jour got the go ahead goal for Chile. A cross into the box from Isla & the Honduran defender could only kick it into Beause Jour which found it's way into the net. Into the 2nd half and it was more of the same. A Chile freekick was whipped in by Fernandez, Isla redirected the ball across the goal with a header and Ponce from a few yards out could not convert the chance. A wonderful save from Valladares kept the score 1-0. Chile should & could have won by more.

Spain 0 Switzerland 1 (Fernandes 52)

Spain had more of the possession in the first half. Their best chance came through Pique who showed good feet in the box but Benaglio came out to smother his shot. Into the second half it was more of the same from Spain but could not fashion a way through the solid Switzerland team. Then in the 52nd minute good play between Nkufo & Derdiyok broke through the Spain defence. Casillas came out to block the jabulani which squirted out and Fernandes was able poke the jabulani home. Spain's best attempt in the 2nd half came from a corner played out to the edge of the box for an arriving Xabi Alonso to thunder the ball against the crossbar. That was on 70 minutes but on 75 mins Switzerland had a chance to seal the game. Derdiyok's one two with Nkufo led to the former having a run at goal getting past two Spanish defenders then beating Casillas with his shot but it hit the post. It came back out to him but Pique was able to block his shot. It ended 1-0 to Switzerland, they fully deserved the win after great defending but for all of Spain's great play they couldn't find a way through.

South Africa 0 Uruguay 3 (Forlan 24, 80 pen, Pereira 95)

Uruguay were on top through out and ran out deserved 3-0 winners. They move top of the group with four points & a game to play.

Uruguay got their first after Diego Forlan found space, hit a powerful shot which deflected off Aaron Mokoena's shoulder & into the net. Into the second half South Africa never looked like scoring. Uruguay kept the pressure up and it told. Luis Suarez got free inside the box and Khune brought him down which bought Khune a red card & Uruguay a penalty. Forlan had to wait a long time to take the penalty but when he did fired it high into the net. That was 2-0 to Uruguay. Right at the end of the game Forlan passed to Suarez out on the wing who played a perfect cross to Pereira who fumbled the jabulani into the net unconvincingly.
