Spain were the better side throughout and when Villa scored it was fully deserved. Lovely passing from with Andres Iniesta acting as the hub allowed Xavi to flick the jabulani through to Villa. His first effort was saved by the Portugal keeper but his second chance was hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced down into the goal. Fernando Llorente had a heading opportunity just before Villa scored but he could only direct his header at Eduardo.

Portugal had to come out and play now but couldn't fashion any sort of chances as they never had the jabulani. Cristiano Ronaldo was terrible, a complete non-event.
